Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 4322 Appeal against conscription of: James Thornborrow Age: 37 Address: Prospect House, Reeth Occupation: Carrier Local tribunal: Reeth Rural District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act Grounds for appeal: Not stated Appellant: Major C Speid-Soote, Military Representative Summary of case: The local tribunal granted an exemption to Thornborrow on the grounds that he has carried out the duties satisfactorily for which the local tribunal gave him his previous exemption viz:- to run a motor service between Reeth and Richmond. It is true there is now another man running a service but he came last summer and eft the district when the summer work was done. For anything we know to the contrary he may do the same again. If this happened and Thornborrow was taken away it would entail serious inconvenience and loss to the dales. The military representative appealed against this exemption.
