The father is 75 years of age and very lame, and unable to work”. The clerk of the local tribunal states that “The father 75, son 36 and daughter 38 live together at Redmire. They have 36 acres of grass. The son has generally had part road repairing to do for the District Council but not now. Asked by the Military Representatives who did farm work when son working on roads, father replied that “son did farm work as well Local tribunal thought evidence of special hardship not sufficient and that man might be spared. Application refused”. Thomas Robson’s grounds for appeal at the North Riding appeal tribunal states: “Serious hardship would ensure if the appellant was called up as he has all the work to do on the farm and the only one to do it. The father is an old man 75 years of age and very lame.”
