Summary of case: On 10 Apr 1917 the local tribunal had given Isaac Jacobs an exemption until 1 September 1917. Abraham Jacobs appealed against this decision stating that he is an unnaturalised Russian Jew who has lived in Britain for over 40 years. His son Isaac is probably about 30 years old, and does not appear on the School registers for the City of York and details of his birth could not be found. He is a tailor working in the family business, one brother Barney went to war, another Philip was injured and discharged as unfit for service and can no longer work in the tailoring trade. Another brother is a Pauper Lunatic in the York City Asylum who is supported financially by the family, his sister Sarah is weak minded deaf and dumb, and another sister Betsy is married to a machinist in Manchester and requires financial assistance.
