Summary of case: In their reasons for their decision, the local tribunal stated that the son who had been in the asylum “was discharged cured”. They felt that the father and son would be able to work the farm and mill. John Edwin Gibson wrote to the Appeal Tribunal after they had made their decision asking if he could appeal again as he had “had notice from the War Agricultural Executive Committee to appeal”. He also wrote that his father is “a confirmed drunkard and cannot be trusted to handle money”. One brother is in the army and the other is at home but “has been in an asylum”. He was informed that as he had received his call up papers any appeal would been the permission of the Army Council.
