Summary of case: In Dec 1915 Yeates had been rejected by the Medical Board. He therefore built up his dental practice. In Jan 1917 he asked for another medical examination as a he ‘was desirous of going under a further’ examination. This was not arranged so, assuming he was exempt, he built up his business further. However, he was then sent for another examination and was passed B1. Thinking he was exempt he had entered into several business obligations with patients; although he had no desire to evade service but wanted to complete these obligations. He asked for three months' exemption which was granted by the local tribunal. The military representative appealed against this decision stating that the exemption certificate was final to 1 Jan 1917 and that it is no longer necessary that the man remain in civil employment...
