Summary of case: “The principal and usual occupations of George Waterhouse (Jnr) are those included in the list of occupations certified by the Board of Agriculture for exemption viz carter, horsekeeper and farm foreman.” He is the only son, his father has asthma and runs a small market garden on Council owned land. After two poor seasons there is not the money to hire help. “One of the Council members of the local tribunal is the Chairman of the committee having the control of the land. He informed the [local] tribunal that the small area of land let to Waterhouse could be easily given up to the Council if the calling up of Waterhouse Junior necessitated it.”
