Summary of case: The local tribunal had asked for further information on the number of sons William Thompson has. They found that he had five sons on the farm, two sons at home and one son engaged in farming with another son. They decided that the services of Charles Edward Thomspon were not indispensable. William Thomson appealed against this decision: “On the ground that my son belong to a starred occupation and is indispensable. seeing I farm 274 acres 84 of which are arable and 190 grass. I have 6 farm horses 50 head of cattle and 47 breeding sheep I have only two sons working on the farm and myself aged 66 this is all the men on the farm and if my son is taken it is impossible for me to carry on my farm. I only wish for the same consideration as other men under the same circumstances. Yours Obedient W. Thompson”
