Summary of case: ‘I am a widow 66 years of age and for 27 years we have kept the Travellers Rest, Eppleby, and owing to been in delicate state of health and cannot do anything towards the Business myself which is the means of my livelihood. My son Tom Barras has managed the business for me since my husband’s death 13 years ago, also I have an acre of a garden to cultivate which he has had to work since my other son voluntary enlisted over two years ago, which he decided to join as he was much stronger than my son Tom.
