Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 4096 Appeal against conscription of: Ralph Hall Age: 34 Address: West Charity Farm, Gilmonby, Bowes Occupation: Farmer Local tribunal: Startforth Rural District Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act (Voluntary Training Corps) Grounds for appeal: None Stated Appellant: Ralph Hall Summary of case: Reasons stuck onto appeal form, but partly ripped off and unavailable. Hallss appeal to the local tribunal stated 1. I farm 106 acres at Gilmonby Bowes, of which 30 are meadow, 20 acres of pasture land is 2 miles away and water to lead to part of it. The stock consists of 25 head of cattle (including 9 milk cows) 70 sheep and 71 lambs, and 2 horses. 2. I work the farm entirely alone, excepting in hay time. I have five children, eldest 7 years, so my wife cannot help much. The local tribunal decided that Hall had a conditional exemption whilst in his present occupation and joining the Volunteer Training Corps on 1 Sep 1917. The decision of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal implies that in his appeal to them he also asked for the Volunteer Training Corps condition to be removed. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 18 Aug 1917 Allowed. Condition as to joining V.T.C. removed. |
