Summary of case: I am the managing and working partner with my father in the printing business established in 1836, and have complete control of four machines two of which are driven by gas engine, and do own repairs when possible. My father is totally deaf therefore cannot interview and not their wants; he also suffers from chronic rheumatism and is entirely unable to lift or move the heavy type forms or work the machines. The Army has got our two apprentices and one man, and I am now left with a new boy. As both my parents are over 75 years of age and dependent upon this business it would be a serious hardship to them if I have to leave the works to be closed down, to say nothing of the hardship to my wife and four children, as I consider the separation allowance inadequate to keep house going and pay Rent, Rates, Insurances etc.- [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/3653]
