Summary of case: “Because there is only himself and his [John William Peacock’s] elder brother on a farm of 202 acres, of which 130 are arable. And if applicant has to serve, farm must be given up as cannot get other assistance.” The local tribunal had previously decided that John William Peacock was not indispensable to the running of the farm. Richard Bowes, the military representative on the local tribunal had stated “General farm labourer not in a certified occupation. Appellant only 18 cannot be said to be essential to national interests.”
