The appellant, who is lame, also has a tallow yard and a dairy sale-shop in Scarborough so Newham is left in charge of the farm and the other employees which include four men over military age, four boys and a woman. He is also the only one who can drive the steam engine to work the grinder. One previous application when exemption was granted to 31 Jul 1917.
