The weekly turnover was over £800 with vast amounts of foodstuffs being required in this munition area. His employer was having difficulty in keeping the department going due to the labour shortage. S Fenby had applied previously to Scarborough and Gorman was granted exemption to 31 Jul 1917. As Brotton was in a different recruiting area S Fenby wrote to ask for clarification of where to send on behalf of Gorman his application for renewal of exemption.
