Summary of case: James was the only fish salesman in Staithes. Following receipt of call up papers on 12 Jul 1917, James applied for exemption to be told that since his employer had appealed previously he could not apply, but that the appropriate form, R-52 Application for Exemption, had been sent to his employer who had already been in contact about renewal of the certificate of exemption. James sent a letter explaining his previous case number 2362 allowed exemption to 1 Jul 1917 which was not objected to when reviewed in Mar 1917 by the Military on account of his low medical class and he was granted conditional exemption. His employer wrote to say he wished to appeal in person. [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/2362]
