Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Attested

Appellant: Douglas Jamieson, Military Representative
Summary of case: The head warehouseman had been called up and the employers, Joseph Rowntree, had failed to get another man to fill his place. Magson is the only capable man they employ. Details of the job's responsibility are attached. A later, updated, document supporting the appeal lists his responsibilities again and states more about the staff who have already joined the army or navy and the firm's attempts to find a substitute. He was examined by five doctors at the time of attesting and was rejected as 'absolutely rejected; not to be called up again'. He suffers from pleurisy and there is evidence of latent tuberculosis. The military representative states it is no longer in the national interest that this man remains in civil life.
