Summary of case: There were two previous appeals with temporary exemption to 16 Oct 1917.Colclough suffers serious health problems and there is supporting evidence for this. He was sergeant instructor and treasurer of the Scarborough Division of the St John's Ambulance Brigade and held other such positions. The military appeal stated ‘that it is no longer of national importance for this man to remain in civil life.’ The local tribunal state on the reverse of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal form that ‘This appeal must have been lodged by mistake. There was no question of national interests. The man himself has no objection to doing military work he is able without injury to his health to perform but his health is not good as is shewn by his category and his daily habits must be regulated in order to prevent it from becoming worse. The tribunal are of opinion that the state of the man’s health entitles his to exemption.’
