Description | North Riding appeal tribunal number: 4051 Appeal against conscription of: James Millhouse Age: 19 Address: 68 Murray Street, York Occupation: Munition worker Local tribunal: York City Council Central tribunal: No Military Service Act 1916 or Attested: Military Service Act Grounds for appeal: a) continue in current occupation, b) engaged in different occupation, d) serious hardship, e) ill health or infirmity, g) exempt occupation Appellant: James Millhouse Summary of case: This is the first appeal. It is based on several grounds. Although passed category A, he had previously been rejected and a statement supported by two medical practitioners states that he has very marked pescarus (high instep) of both feet and is unfit for military service. He has a brother serving in France and a widowed mother. He is doing work of national importance with Messrs Armstrong Whitworth and offers to take a course in wireless telegraphy at his own expense and to undertake any clerical work of national importance. The military representative appealed against that saying there was no guarantee the post would be found for him in wireless telegraphy and that he was too young for an exemption. He was granted permission to be examined by the Special Medical Board and they confirmed that he was category A. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 11 Aug 1917. Dismissed. |
