Summary of case: The applicant has five brothers; four of them in service, unfortunately one on them has been killed. His mother is aged 70 and suffers from several complaints amongst them being a very weak heart. He also has a sister at home but she is unable to earn a wage in consequence of having to attend to the household work. The financial result is that he has to maintain his mother, sister and himself. His brother in law is also serving so he also provides support to his sister. The mothers health has been seriously impaired since the house was hit in an air raid and the loss of her youngest son and now cannot be left alone. He requests that he should be granted conditional exemption to enable him to maintain his home for his widowed mother and the family, bearing him mind his mother's health and the serious financial and domestic hardship involved. His employers are supporting his application due to his exceptional circumstance, whereas in the past they have allowed their Clerks to enlist, promising to keep their places open for them.
