John Swinnerton bought the dental practice in Kirkbymoorside in 1915 after the death of the previous owner, leaving the practice now would result in severe financial hardship. John Swinnerton also travels to Helmsley and Pickering to carry out dental work there and provided dental services to the Kings Royal Rifles while they were in Duncombe Park. The nearest other qualified dental surgeon is some 14 miles away. Swinnerton has also been medically classified as B.1, so therefore not fit for General Service.[See also NRCC/Cl 9/1/3144
