Summary of case: Original appeal by Hancil Pickering requesting 6 weeks exemption in March 1916. Second appeal in July 1916 by employer Banks Robinson stating that they has no other man who can do the work of Pickering and temporary exemption was granted to November 1916. Third appeal by employer Banks Robinson in April 1917 requesting absolute exemption and temporary exemption granted to 1 July 1917. Final appeal by employer Bank & Robinson in May 1917 asked north Riding Appeal Tribunal stating that; ‘This is the only man I have who understands working a self-binder or who can build a corn stack also the only man who can milk he is certainly indispensable.’
