He was arrested in August 1916, brought before the magistrates and handed over to the military authorities . He was shortly after discharged from the army as totally unfit. He was given notice to medically examined on 23rd inst., [May 1917] under the Military Service Revision of Exceptions Act 1917 and at once sent in an application to the local tribunal for exemption on conscientious grounds. The case was heard on the 22 May that is before the date fixed for Medical Examination. The latter has resulted in the applicant being placed in Category B2. This appeal is made on the ground that the evidence of conscientious objection was not fully gone into by the local tribunal. The local tribunal were not satisfied with the written and verbal replies to questions and again refused the application. Applicant admitted on the hearing of the first claim that he would be prepared to use physical force to protect any goods belonging to him. 27 Jul 1917: Appeal to Central Tribunal.
