Summary of case: The local tribunal initially wished to refer this case to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal as the members of the local tribunal were also members of the Rural District Council and as such were the applicant's employer. The local tribunal stated that the applicant's services were indispensable. They then changed their minds and offered to hear the case themselves. However the North Riding Appeal Tribunal decided that the case would be heard by them. The military representative appealed against the Certificate of Exemption stating that ' It is no longer necessary in the national interests that he should continue in civil employment'
