Summary of case: Appellant states work is of national importance however, a letter from the National Health Board states that in fact his work does not now fall into this category. The letter requests that it be taken into consideration as the government states that work in National Insurance must go on. Originally classed as B3 Longbotham was moved to Malton to replace a fit man who had been called up. After re-examination he was classed as B1 even though he suffers from an enlarged heart which affects his breathing.
