Summary of case: I am a Grocer and Provision Merchant carrying on business (established 15years) in Great Ayton. I am 57 years of age and suffering from a physical disability which prevents me from doing the heavy work of the business such as lifting etc. At the commencement of the War I had three male assistants (two of my sons and a Warehouseman) now I have only this son left, the other son and the Warehouseman having joined up. This son is practically doing the work of the other son and Warehouseman as well as his own. We are working seven days a week to keep going. This son is absolutely indispensable to the business and cannot be replaced. He does practically all the carting and outside work stable work etc. If he goes I don’t see how I can possibly carry on the business.
