Summary of case: The reason for me applying for this exemption is that I have 20 acres of land and 2 shops and I pay £45 rents and rates. I am the only butcher in Ingleby Greenhow and I supply a wide circle of customers my man having joined the army I have only myself for the 2 shops and I having 17 acres of meadow land to get and If I am called away it will mean me closing up and serious hardship will ensue. At the present time I have 3 brothers serving their country all having volunteered to join which has left my father 68 years old depending on me.
