Summary of case: When Mason received his call-up letter, he wrote to the clerk of the tribunal asking for exemption because he had been given work on a motor plough. Also the North Riding War Agricultural Executive Committee wrote to ask if the three days per week he worked for them was enough for exemption. They added that they would like him to work 6 days per week. He had been given temporary exemption of 6 months on 24 Aug 1916, then a further 3 months on 1 Mar 1917. Two more months, not renewable, were granted on 7 Jun 1917. Finally, at the North Riding Appeal Tribunal, he was granted exemption to 1 Jan 1918 provided his work on the Motor Plough, for the military authorities, took 5 days per week.
