Summary of case: He had been granted temporary exemption to 31 July 1917. The military representative appealed against this decision and requested a review of Illingworth’s certificate of exemption stating: ‘This man having left his employment at the sewerage works should now join the Amy instead of being retained in civilian employment.’ A letter from the War Department Balfour, Beatty & Co Ltd., dated 20 June 1917, states that Illingworth is employed as a bricklayer under the Munitions Act on work of National Importance at the Catterick Camp.[See also NRCC/CL 9/1/3474]
