Summary of case: The appeal to the local tribunal was made by Dinsdale’s father, a farmer and employer. He had been exempted four times by the local tribunal the last to 24 August 1917. His father had 39 head of cattle including 12 milk cows, 2 horses, 81 breeding ewes and 90 lambs and 3 other sheep on grass two miles away from the farmhouse. Total acreage 131 including 42 of meadowland. If his son was taken he would have to give up farming as he could not manage on his own. There was also a letter from a doctor stating that the father, Philip, suffered from chronic rheumatism and was unfit for any heavy work. The local tribunal, having regard to the father's incapacity, granted temporary exemption to 24 August 1917. The military representative appealed on the against this stating that a substitution had been offered and accepted on the grounds that he did not appeal again.
