Summary of case: Clayton appealed to the local tribunal as a time expired soldier, having been 11 years in the Durham Light Infantry including 2 years in the current campaign which involved the Ypres battles. He stated that he had done his bit and wanted to remain in civil life. He had been working for a brush manufacturer and timber merchant as a timber sawyer as well as pig dealing and gardening in his spare time. The local tribunal were satisfied that he had done his bit and was now employed on Munitions at Head Wrightson and Co. Their view was that his case was deserving of the utmost leniency. There is a supporting letter from the Munitions company regarding the vital work he was engaged in and which was part of an urgent Admiralty contract.
