Summary of case: The local tribunal granted temporary exemption for 3 months in June 1916, and in October 1916 temporary exemption was granted conditional on becoming and remaining engaged on munitions work within one month. He went on munition work but only worked irregularly and instead of endeavouring to find assistance he bought large stocks of goods. He ran the business for 10 years and left it in the hands of a woman when he went on munition work resulting in his business dwindling (he is a sole trader). Hoping to continue to supply the military camp he bought stock to prepare for the season. He has several dependants and his wife was in delicate health.
