Summary of case: ‘ The applicant’s attention has been drawn to the recent decision of the Central Tribunal, and to the various statements by chairmen of Important London Tribunals to the effect that applicants were entitled not as a privilege, but as a legal right to receive exemption when they established to the satisfaction of the tribunal that serious hardship would ensue owing I the exceptional business obligations, and in view of the following fact the applicant contends that his case comes within the above decision.’ In 1914 Pollard tried volunteering for the army but was rejected due to his eyesight and a “rupture”. Once rejected he purchased a butchers business, if called up he will lose £100 causing serious hardship. He believes himself to be conditionally exempt due to nature of work and the fact his owns his own business.
