Summary of case: His father is aged 80 and suffers from fits; there is no one to look after him but his mother. One brother has been called up, the other two are married. Arthur manages his father’s affairs; if he were to be called up the farm would have to be broken up. Currently the farm is run with no other labour than Manton Snr's sons. The local tribunal stated that so far Arthur has been spared being called up due to the other sons not living on the farm and if one of the other son’s moves to the farm this would free Arthur to join up. Supporting evidence: No
Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 4 Jun 1917. Dismissed not to be called up before 1 July 1917.
