Summary of case: Is in a certified exemption, this exemption was withdraw by “the military”. Richard is the sole Sheppard on the farm and the sheep have started lambing. His work on the 286 acre farm is his only job. There is no hired labour on the farm and none is to be had if needed. There is as second son, 23, a daughter, 16, and a boy, 14, who also works the farm with the father. The local tribunal stated that that the appellant should make some sacrifices, and if Richard joins the army a hired man could be found.
