Summary of case: Appellant is winding up the business but as his senior clerk has left, he is only left with a junior clerk. A Solicitor in Darlington has agreed to take over his practice but needs a month to get him fully versed in the existing work. The appellant has applied for a place at the Inns of Court, Officer Training Corps, and is going before the selection committee. Hodgson asks for a short temporary exemption. The local tribunal stated in their reasons for granting him a one month exemption that the ‘applicant was married in August last and therefore is single under the Military Service Act. He was granted one month’s exemption on 19 Jan 1917 and applied again on 16 Feb 1917 asking to be remitted to the Central Medical Board for re-examination. This was done when the finding of the Medical Board was upheld. The tribunal took into consideration previous exemption and consider one month sufficient for him to make arrangements.’
