Summary of case: “The appellant is the younger son of Mary Kipling, the tenant of a moorland farm 5 miles from Cotherston….The applicant does all the shepherding and attends to the lambing…applicant has two brothers, one the elder over military age is a mason in full time work. The other is a partial cripple, having his hip broken four years ago….he cannot work much or walk any distance.” The local tribunal decided that the elder brother who is acquainted with farm work could run the farm during the man’s absence.
