Summary of case: John Fawcett is one of two brothers farming sheep in a remote area both are necessary to the successful running of the farm. “No hired help can be obtained. The nearest village is five miles away. The countryside is denuded of agricultural hands.” The local tribunal’s decision stated, “in the opinion of the tribunal most of whom are well acquainted with the farm and its conditions, appellant’s brother is quite capable of carrying on the farm by himself and this release the appellant for the army.”
