Summary of case: The appellant’s son is essential in running “a farm for feeding stock for the fat trade.” Two other sons, “one of whom is in the army and the other has been rejected owing to a physical defect, the result of an accident, which prevents him following his occupation on the farm.” The farm needs four men to in military and other deemed unfit and unable to work on farm. The local tribunal decision stated that John George Downson’s occupation is not as a stockman working on the farm but as a travelling cattle dealer.
