Summary of case: The local tribunal had withdrawn Honeyman’s certificate of exemption as ‘this man's service would be more useful in the army as he is fit for general service and the greater part of his occupation is that of cattle dealer. His butchering business consists solely of taking meat to Stockton market where there is no doubt a sufficiency of butchers.’ Honeyman appealed against this decision as he is the sole slaughterman and salesman in the business, with a farm of 30 acres to maintain, plus sole cattle dealer for several farms and eight retail butchers in the area. I also have two children to support.
