The local tribunal decided that he could easily run the farm on his own if he gave up his clerical work “on which he is engaged three days a week.” Joseph Parkin claims that “it would be impossible for one to look after all the stock and do the farm work myself if I did give up my other work as I had an accident to my knee and my arm and shoulder run over about four months ago and I have not been able to do heavy work since…I therefore ask that my son may at least have until 13 May to get over the lambing season.”
