Summary of case: Appellant had been established in business for over 40 years and could not read or write. Her son did all the buying and bookkeeping and heavy work. Assisted by her widowed daughter and a boy. Her son is her sole support. Wedgwood had been called up but wrote to the local tribunal asking for a delay of one month to set his affairs in order. He was passed B1and was willing to work at Skinningrove Iron Works. Clerk of North riding Appeal Tribunal wrote as calling up papers had been received and the Appeal Tribunal was unable to comply with his request but he should write to the Recruiting Officer. The appeal had been dismissed as there were other brothers capable of undertaking the work.
