Summary of case: The local tribunal found that as Smith was engaged in agriculture and in view of the shortage of foodstuffs it was more in national interests to retain him in present employment. Circumstances would be altered if a satisfactory substitute was to be provided. George Brotchie stated appealed against this stating that Smith had been passed fit for general service and it was deemed in the national interest for him to be called up if a suitable substitute from a lower category could be found.
