I have been called up about 14 times altogether called to the Colours again on 22 of Sep 1916. Went to Richmond and got home Service only if every man had tried as hard as I did we would have had plenty of men and they would not have wanted all this bother when I had been rejected all them many times I told Mr Raine I would look after his business till he come back he has had 4 men gone and himself he has a wife and 5 children so I think I have not been a shirker I have turned 40 years of age.’ [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/3577]
