His wife is almost blind and cannot help with the business. On 31 March he had been allowed exemption until 1 May 1917. Subsequent correspondence indicates that he wanted his solicitor to place his case before the Central Tribunal but he was out of time to do so, not having realised that he had only three days from the date of the tribunal decision in which to apply. A letter dated 25 July indicates that the solicitor is applying to the War Office for permission to bring his case back to the Appeal Tribunal. By that date he had received his call up papers.
