Summary of case: Toas had been granted conditional exemption but the military have now issued instructions that all cases of exemption granted to men under 31 years of age must be reviewed. Toas appealed, he had to support his invalid mother, a delicate sister, a brother at school and another sister who nursed his mother. There would be serious hardship if he was called up. The local tribunal had dismissed his appeal as they stated that exemption could not be granted to a single man passed Class A and said local feeling confirmed this
