Summary of case: The local tribunal allowed a temporary exemption until 10 Aug 1916. The military representative appealed successfully on the grounds it was not in the national interest that he remain in his present occupation and the certificate was withdrawn. He was not to be called up till 7 Apr 1917. Foott then appealed against this, but his appeal was dismissed as there were other cartwrights in the area. The local tribunal had noted in their reasons for their decision that Foott had ‘not a large business and can find ample time for shooting and other leisure, leaving his man in charge.’
