This exemption was conditional upon him staying in his present occupation and working three days per week on neighbouring farms, and also joining the Voluntary Training Corps. The military representative appealed, stating the farm was small, it was not in the national interest to let so young a man stay out of the forces and Mrs Crowther could arrange other help.
