The military representative appealed: ‘The firm are beer bottlers and aerated water manufacturers. They have only 405 tons of the sugar they had last year for aerated water manufacture, and they admit that they will not have anything like as much beer. They say it takes this man to lift casks of 5cwt onto a gantry, this by spending a few pounds on tackle could be avoided. The employer R A Wright, Cumberland Street, is of military age, and he has a competent Managing Clerk.’
