Summary of case: Applicant was the sole support of his widowed mother, 72 years old and totally dependent upon him. The local tribunal had granted conditional exemption whilst he continued to look after her. This was withdrawn on 24 April 1917, though the military authorities agreed not to call him up before 20 May 1917. Giving their reasons for this, the local tribunal states;’ The mother is not bedridden and a married sister of the appellant lives next door. Through having an invalid husband, she goes out to work two or three days a week and she will be able to look after her mother, as the appellant is of course not in constant attendance.'
