Summary of case: George Crombie & Sons, Solicitors, had appealed on behalf of Barden, who was an indispensable assistant to a very busy dentist, part of whose work was with schoolboys who would need attention before they joined up. He was a married man with one child and also supported his wife's brother and sister, aged 12 and 10. York City tribunal gave conditional exemption whilst in present occupation, but the military representative disagreed and appealed, citing circular R114 as the man was under 31 and passed 'A'.
