Appellant: John Kirk, Military Representative Summary of case: Following an appeal due to orders to review all certificates where men had been passed for general service and who had a certificate previous to Sep 1916. Metcalfe, who had received an absolute exemption on 21 Feb 1916 from the local tribunal, was given a temporary exemption until 1 Oct 1917 not to be renewed. The local tribunal state that his father is 78 and cannot carry on the business without him. Metcalfe also has 2 cows and grows and sells a great deal of fruit and vegetables. He's the only man employed and is in the Volunteer Training Corps. Supporting evidence: No Date and decision of North Riding Appeal Tribunal: 11 Apr 1917. Dismissed. Military appeal |
